Camp Roger wins $25K
Makeover
Camp Roger has won the $25,000 “Extreme Office Technology
Makeover”! This makeover will give Camp Roger totally new technology
in their office, replacing their pieced together system. The
makeover includes an IBM server, four workstations with LCD
monitors, one notebook computer, a 3Com five user phone system, five
Microsoft Office 2007 licenses, a firewall, anti-virus software, and
installation services.
i3 Business Solutions and the Grand
Rapids Chamber of Commerce sponsored the makeover. Entries were judged on
current business pains and how new technology would increase productivity. It
was hard to select a winner!

WSS UP?
Jeff Ostrander, Lead Developer
As a
database and application developer, I spend a
lot of time analyzing clients’ requirements,
defining relationships between data elements and
carefully architecting a technical foundation
that will bear the weight of future
applications. This is crucial and interesting
work, and often less time-consuming than the
task of creating a human interface to collect,
consume and present the data.
The
software development cycle can be rather
ponderous; everything has dependencies on other
things, everything provides its own specific and
finite capabilities, and everything demands an
investment. When any one of those things fails
to perform its job as part of a coordinated
whole, time and money is wasted.
It’s a lot like engineering a concrete bridge;
once the cement has been poured, it’s awfully
expensive to change the shape of the product.
For
several years that model has been changing, with
a greater emphasis on creating things which are
“modular” – that is, components that behave in
predictable ways defined by an external set of
standards. Building applications using this
approach is more like assembling with Lego’s.
Enter SharePoint, which takes this model a step
further by providing, behind the scenes, the
ability to create and assemble its own Lego’s.
In this approach, we can potentially begin and
end the design process with a consideration of
how a body of data should behave; less
consideration is required of how individual data
elements will be stored, inter-connected and
presented because SharePoint knows how to do
those things without our help.

Microsoft Office
OneNote 2007

Many of us carry a
notebook or notepad around to take notes for business, school, or
personal projects. But can you easily find — and decipher — the info
you need? Is it convenient to share your notes with others? Take
control with Microsoft Office OneNote 2007, the easy-to-use
note-taking and information-management program where you can capture
ideas and information in electronic form. Insert files or Web
content in full-color, searchable format or as icons that you can
click to access. Watch this demo to see how simple it is to gather,
format, organize, and share information. And then say goodbye to
your notepad!
How to do it (text
version):
Get started with OneNote
Take and format notes
Organize your notes
Distribute notes to other
people
